Opercular movement is a good indicator of life, but in cases where the fish needs to be very deep, opercular movements may cease.

Note the use of an extra plastic tube to provide fresh water to the gills (two tubes providing water flow are in the mouth of the fish).

Enrofloxacin was administered intramuscularly at a dose of 10 mg/kg every 48 hours for ten days.

This fish recovered and was doing well five months after surgery.
