Ticks are occasionally observed by the author on rabbits and are as easily removed as from dogs and cats after the application of local analgesia, methylated spirit or isopropyl alcohol. Soll (1989) quotes Frossard who states that ivermectin prevents attempted induction of infestations for seven days. Theoretically rabbits are susceptible to Lyme Disease and other diseases carried by ticks include [[Myxomatosis|myxomatosis]], [[Papillomatosis|papillomatosis]] and tularaemia. Permethrin products (eg. Xenex Ultra and those recommended for cats) are generally considered safe for rabbits and may be useful as preventatives but at the time of writing, no kill time50 was available from for Xenex Ultra® on ticks. If you want to try Advantix® you must contact Bayer first.
