CRC Press - Book Review Information
Published book reviews
Fancy yourself as a bit of a wordsmith? Want to get your teeth into a new textbook? CRC Press and WikiVet are offering free book vouchers worth up to £150, or your choice of textbook, in return for book reviews published on WikiVet. We're looking for both students and new practitioners to review books published within the last six months (or about to be published - CRC Press can give you an advance copy to assess). If you're interested, please email CRC Press' Veterinary Editor alice.oven@tandf.co.uk with your topic of interest. We can only publish one student review and one practitioner review of each new text, so first come, first served! Each book review should be 400-800 words and needs to be in good English. Once you have received your digital copy of the book, you will have 3 weeks to write your review. Suggested topics to cover might be: usefulness for course revision, breadth of topics covered within the specialty addressed by the book, readability, image quality, usefulness in practice, specific parts of the book that most appealed, suggestions for possible improvements in future editions.
Recent publications for which we're looking for reviewers are:
Small Animal Imaging: Self-Assessment Review
Canine Infectious Diseases: Self-Assessment Color Review
Goat Medicine and Surgery
Veterinary Nursing Care Plans
Equine Pediatric Medicine, Second Edition
Pig Health
Fascial Anatomy of the Equine Limb
And forthcoming in the next few months:
Diagnostic MRI in Dogs and Cats
Skin Diseases of the Dog and Cat: Colour Handbook, Third Edition
Ophthalmic Disease in Veterinary Medicine, Second Edition
The Welfare of Cattle
Small Animal Anesthesia and Pain Management: A Color Handbook, Second Edition
Essentials of Clinical Anatomy of the Equine Locomotor System
Small Animal Medicine and Metabolic Diseases: Self-Assessment Color Review, Second Edition
Book proposal reviews
Interested in assessing new book publications before they hit the bookshops? Do you want to help shape book ideas to make them the very best they can be for veterinary students? CRC Press want to know your thoughts on brand new book proposals aimed at veterinary students and new practitioners. Your feedback can help the author or editor tailor their book plan to make it better suited to your needs. It can even help CRC Press decide whether or not a book project is worth taking forward.
If you'd like to be involved, please email Veterinary Editor alice.oven@tandf.co.uk with some information about your particular areas of interest within veterinary medicine, your level of study, and your vet school. Alice will then add you to a mailing list and contact you should a relevant new book proposal come in for review. You would then have three weeks to complete a detailed questionnaire about the proposal (normally 5-10 pages plus a few pages of sample writing), for which you'd receive a £200 CRC Press book voucher.
Occasionally CRC Press also assess existing books for new editions, in which case we would ask you to review the current edition rather than a proposal.
