  • Obstruction of the urinary tract anywhere between the renal pelvis and urethra can lead to hydronephrosis.
  • Continued back pressure along with the persistence of glomerular filtration leads to the development of ischaemic lesions and pressure atrophy of the tubules.
  • Dilatation of the renal pelvis and calyces occurs.
