There are about 40 species in this genus of the family Typhlopidae. These blind, burrowing are distributed from India to Australia. Males of this genus have a solid portion in their copulatory organ as opposed to the soft hemipene of other snakes. One species, the flowerpot snake (R. braminus) is parthenogenetic.
