Excess ADH leads to fluid retention, contributing to congestive heart failure, and dilutes total body sodium and chloride leading to hypo-osmolarity. The finding of hyponatraemia and hypochloraemia on blood tests from patients with cardiac disease indicate an advanced stage of disease.
