Recently, vaccination campaigns were underway in Africa (Pan African Rinderpest Campaign or PARC), West Asia (WAREC) and South Asia (SAREC) in an attempt to eradicate the disease globally by the year 2010. Rinderpest has not been reported from West or Central Africa for over 10 years and, as stated above, it was present in Sudan and Somalia until the 1994 [http://www.fao.org/ag/againfo/programmes/en/grep/home.html Global Rinderpest Eradication Programme (GREP)] succeeded in its goal in 2011.
