ASCARIDIA Species

  • Typical fleshy ascarids.
  • Up to 12cm long.
  • Produces a smooth-shelled ascarid egg.
  • The life-cycle is typical, except that it is non-migratory (the newly-hatched larvae either stay in the intestine or spend a short time in the intestinal mucosa).
  • Heavy infections reduce growth rates and egg-production.
  • Occasionally, an aberrant worm enters the oviduct and is incorporated into an egg.
