Dorsal displacement of soft palate (DDSP)
- Occurs mainly in horses
- Dynamic
- Marked ulceration of caudal boarder of soft palate due to its flapping
- 50% have concurrent lower airway disease
- Sometimes improves with improved fitness
- May be associated with trigeminal, vagus and glossopharyngeal neuropathies
Permanent dorsal displacement of soft palate
- Secondary to neurological damage (e.g. guttural pouch disease, neoplasia, peripheral neuropathies
- Mainly in horses
