''Bacillus piliformis'' is a species of ''[[:Category:Bacillus species|Bacillus]]'' bacteria. It is a spore-forming filamentous Gram negative '''intracellular''' pathogen. The colonies only grow in tissue culture or embryonated eggs. The disease it causes is called [[Tyzzer's Disease|Tyzzer's disease]] characterised by severe hepatic necrosis. It occurs sporadically in foals, calves, dogs and cats. It has an ncubation period up to 1 week.
 
 
 
Diagnosis can be achieved by Warthin-Starry silver impregnation technique demonstrating organisms in hepatocytes.
