It is responsible for[[Infectious Necrotic Hepatitis|Infectious necrotic hepatitis/black disease]], which is an acute disease of sheep, and cattle.  Hepatic necrosis is caused by exotoxins of ''C. novyi'' type B in liver damaged by ''Fasciola hepatica''
