Disturbances of Circulation Disturbances of Ventilation
Pigmentation
- Permanent abnormal discoloration
Melanosis
- Individual parenchymal lobules are affected
- Pigment is present in the alveolar walls of calves and lambs
- Most likely congenital
Anthracosis
- Diffuse greyish discoloration
Carbon in the connective tissue around airways and vessels, after being brought and deposited there - sequestration - by macrophages from the alveoli
- Used to be seen in town-dwelling dogs and cats
Calcification
- Generally associated with hypervitaminosis D or from ingested vitamin D analogues
- Common sequel to uraemia in dogs and pulmonary necrosis
- Lungs may fail to collapse on opening the thorax
- See general pathology
