Sucking Lice (Anoplura)
Sucking (biting) lice have a narrow head, and the thorax wider than the head. They have powerful legs, and piercing mouthparts, used to feed on blood and tissue fluids. Heavy infestations can cause anaemia.
Species occur only on mammals.
