|Introduction= The Abel Salazar Biomedical Sciences Institute (ICBAS) is part of the University of Oporto and is an university school and teaching center, a scientific research center, a culture center and also provides services to the general population.

|History= ICBAS was created in 1975 after the portuguese Carnation Revolution ("25th of April") by a group of individuals from the University of Oporto (Corino de Andrade, Nuno Grande, Ruy Luís Gomes). The structure and the teaching methods of this university were inspired by the work of its patron: Abel Salazar (physician, lecturer, researcher, writer and painter; 1889-1946).
