a condition associated with the ingestion of bracken fern and characterised by persistent haematuria and anaemia. The chronic inflammatory changes that occur in this condition proceed to neoplasia.
- Gross pathology of Bovine enzootic haematuria
- 90% of the haemorrhages occur in the bladder.
- Presence of pea-sized reddish black nodules in the mucosa.
- Later stages develop into wart-like or cauliflower-like growths.
- Histopathology of Bovine enzootic haematuria
- Presence of dilated vessels. (These represent the black nodules seen on gross analysis.)
- Epithelium can show progression from hyperplasia to metaplastia or neoplasia.
