These are Group 4 labelled drugs. Examples of these are; nitroxynil, closantel and oxyclozanide.
They work by uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation. They are all active against Fasciola hepatica, but each drug has a differing level of activity against each of its life stages and so care should be taken when choosing a product. They tend to bind strongly to plasma proteins and so can't be used in milking animals.
Closantel is active against blood sucking nematodes too, such as Haemonchus. They have a residual effect against them for three months. This drug tends to be used in areas which have a resistance problem as it has a different mode of action compared to the three main groups of anthelmintics.
