In late November Nick Short from WikiVet visited India to make a presentation to a workshop of veterinary experts from across India as well as from international organizations in New Delhi to discuss measures to strengthen the veterinary profession in India, with a particular focus on livestock and dairy veterinary medicine. The event was organised by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR), science and development organization CABI, the University of Edinburgh, and WikiVet, and supported by Pfizer Animal Health. The workshop examined the main issues facing the Indian vet profession in its role to improve food security and protect public health in India. You can view a copy of the agenda here.

Subsequently, Nick travelled to the South of India to meet colleagues at the TANUVAS veterinary school in Chennai followed by a visit to the veterinary college in Bangalore. TANUVAS has been working for the past 3 years to develop an entire online veterinary curriculum for the Indian profession. It was agreed to explore the possibility of linking this resource which will be used by over 50 veterinary schools in India with WikiVet. In Bangalore, academics and students have already been using WikiVet extensively and the opportunity to extend the content to address Indian requirements, for example water buffalo anatomy was explored.
