Scrapie is a neurological disease of sheep (and goats) first recorded in 1732. Clinical signs include progressive ataxia and pruritis. Histology usually shows vacuolation of CNS (brain and spinal cord). The agent of disease is believed to be an abnormal prion (or is prion associated), which is a protein with an abnormal folding structure.
