Signalment

"Gertrud", a mature hen (exact age unknown), is brought to the practice for examination.

History

Gertrud's owner is worried about her feet. She owns three other chickens, all of which are normal as far as she is aware.

Gertrud is behaving normally and her appetite is good.

Clinical Examination

On clinical examination, the vet finds the following:

  • By feeling the pectoral muscles, the vet finds that Gertrud is a good weight
  • The scales on Gertrud's feet have a rough appearance.

The vet examines some of the scale under the microscope.
