  • Non-motile, non-spore-forming bacteria
  • Anaerobic or facultative anaerobes
  • Grow on enriched media
  • Arcanobacterium pyogenes formerly known as Actinomyces pyogenes and Corynebacterium pyogenes
  • Colonise mucous membranes
