Snakes of the family Leptotyphlopidae are slender blind (thread) snakes and comprise about 80 species. These small burrowing snakes have a well-developed pelvic girdle and some species have spurs. There are no teeth in the upper jaw. The two genera, Leptotyphlops and Rhinoleptus, are spread throughout continental North and South America, West Indies, Africa, Arabia and Pakistan.
