Thamnophis spp. are ribbon and garter snakes (subfamily Natricinae, family Colubridae). There are 18 species from Central and North America. They are small to medium snakes with longitudinal lines running the length of their bodies. They feed on amphibians but may take earthworms, fish and small mammals. All are viviparous.
