Introduction

• The CNS is composed of two major cell types:
  1. Neurons
  2. Glial cells, which include:
     • Astrocytes
     • Oligodendrocytes
     • Microglial cells
     • Ependymal cells
     • Choroid plexus epithelial cells
• The response to injury varies with the cell type injured.
