Characteristics

  • Gram negative rod with coccobacillary appearance
  • Non-moltile, obligate aerobe
  • Oxidase negative, weakly catalase positive
  • Fastidious, requiring cysteine for growth on blood agar
  • No growth on MacConkey
  • Facultative intracellular pathogen
