Phlebitis

Often accompanied and preceding venous thrombosis. May be due to:

  • Non-sterile venae punture.
  • Umbilical lesions; omphalophlebitis.
  • Bacteraemia.

Most often seen in the venae cava, jugular veins and portal veins.
