The school is locaded more or less in the city center of Wroclaw. Within a radius on 500 meters from the University two parks are found, the river surrounding the city, shopping center, cafes and some modern lunch bars. There are also bus and tram stops leading to all parts of the city located 1-3 minute walk away.

Introduction

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Wroclaw is a part of; Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is an acknowledged and valued scientific research and education center. It was established in 1945 and has since that time managed to create a strong and modern academic center with respect towards its heritage. It is one of two Veterinary Schools in Poland offering English division, the other one being the school in Warsaw. The program runs over 5,5 years. The Faculty Council of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is authorized to confer university degrees – Doctor of Veterinary Science and Doctor Habilitatus of Veterinary Science.

History

The roots of the schools establishment goes back to Lvov 1881, where the school was located until the second World War. It was the third Veterinary school to be opened in Poland after Vilnus and Warsaw. After the war its activity was moved to Wroclaw, this because Lviv was seperated from Poland after eastern outskirt of Poland by soviet Army and German occupation. The surviving members of the academic community in Lviv moved and settled in Wroclaw, formerly a German city carrying the name Breslau. The schools official establishment in Wroclaw is November 1. 1945. At that time it was only an Institute of Veterinary Medicine with an Animal clinic, operating together with Institute of Agriculture. In 1972 it got the name Wroclaw Academy of Agriculture, in 2006 it was upgraded to University level and renamed again to Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences. The Fatulty og Veterinary Medicine is one of five Faculties at the University.

Education

The Faculty Council of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is authorised to confer university degrees – Doctor of Veterinary Science and Doctor Habilitatus of Veterinary Science. The school mainly provides education and training for the title DVM.


First year: Anatomy, Biophysics, Cellbiology, Chemistry, Histology and Embryology, Latin, Social Science, Polish, Ergonomy, Biostatistics, Agronomy, Biology, IT-Technology, Biochemistry, General and Veterinary Genetics, Environmental Protection, Physical Education

Second year: Biochemistry, Animal Breeding, Veterinary Economics, Ethology and Walfare, Polish, Veterinary Microbiology, Animal Physiology, Technologies in Animal Production, Topographical Anatomy, Veterinary Epidemiology, Pathophysiology, Animal Nutrition and Feed Quality, Professional Ethics.

Third year: Clinical and Laboratory Diagnostics, Ecology and Game Animals, Veterinary Pharmacy, Veterinary Pharmacology, Animal Hygiene, Parasitology and Invasiology, Pathophysiology, Pathomorphology, Surgery and Anesthesiology, Beneficial Insect Disease, Fur-Covered animal disease, Image Diagnostics, Public Health Protection In a state of Disaster, Elective Courses

Fourth year: Disease of Farm Animals (Internal disease, Surgery, Reproduction, Infectious diseases), Food Sanity Law, Fish Disease, Fodder Hygiene, Slaughter Animals and Meat Hygiene, Andrology and Artificial Insemination, Diseases of Horse (Internal Disease, Surgery, Reproduction, Infectious disease), Slaughter Animals and Meat Hygiene, Milk Hygiene, Veterinary Toxicology, Zoonoses, Veterinary dietetics, Elective courses.

Fifth year: Diseases of Dog and Cat (Internal diseases, Surgery, Reproduction, Infectious disease), Avian diseases, Slaughter Animals and Meat Hygiene, Hygiene of Food Processing, Clinical Immunology, Marketing in Veterinary Practice, Preventive Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Administration and law, Safety of feedstuff, Clinical internships for diseases of Horses, Dogs, Cats, Avian and Farm Animals.

Sixth year: Clinical internships for diseases of Horses, Dogs, Cats and Farm Animals, Elective courses.

During summer from the second year of there are also mandatory practice/internships that as to be made during summer holiday.
