Sarah K. Abood, DVM, PhD Professional Biography

Dr. Sarah Abood received her Bachelor of Science degree (1984) and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (1988) from Michigan State University. After completing a one-year internship in large animal medicine and surgery at the University of Minnesota, she spent 5 years at The Ohio State University (OSU), working on a PhD and in a clinical nutrition residency with Dr. Tony Buffington. She earned her PhD from OSU in 1997, and from 1994 to 1999, she worked as a nutrition scientist in Research & Technical Communications at the Ralston Purina Company in St. Louis, Missouri.

From October 1999 through June 2016, Dr. Abood was employed at Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine where she served as the Assistant Dean for Student Programs and the small animal clinical nutritionist in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Dr. Abood’s research and teaching interests include nutrition support for small animal patients, obesity prevention and management, client compliance, veterinary ethics, communication-skill building, leadership skills and professional development. She has co-authored several articles in peer-reviewed journals and runs her own nutrition consulting business: Sit, Stay, Speak Nutrition, LLC.
