  • Streptococcus zooepidemicus and S. equisimilis are usually non-pathogenic
  • S. equi is more pathogenic and is the cause of strangles with rhinitis, pharyngitis, lymphadenitis, myositis
  • S. equi may be involved in cutaneous lesions
