Introduction

Gadjah Mada University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH UGM) was first established in 1946. It is one of the best and the oldest veterinary school in Indonesia. Our faculty has faced many changes before end up liked the one that exist now. The biggest change is its curriculum, now we are the first Veterinary Faculty in Indonesia which use the Problem-Based Learning curriculum for its undergraduate program since 2007 as an effort to improve the quality of the learning process and improve the competence of graduates Veterinarians FKH UGM. To support the students, our faculty is equipped with many facilities such as library, laboratories and animal hospital.

History

The history of our faculty traced back in 1820 it was during the Dutch colonization time when Dr R.A Copiters came to Indonesia to take care of the animal diseases. Then, the Netherland Indische Veeart School was established before it joined with Bogor Laboratory of Animal Diseases in 1908. Later in 20 September 1946 (this date was used as the birthday of our faculty) this school was known as College of Veterinary Medicine.In 19 December 1949 the Indonesian Government built Gadjah Mada University and the College of Veterinary Medicine which included in it changed name into Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. In 1987 our faculty got a Diagnostic Lab and then in 1992 our faculty was equipped with teaching farm. From 2001 until now, our faculty has a new building and the old building is now used as Animal Hospital.

Education

Our faculty provide diploma, degree program (DVM), master program (MSc)and doctoral program.

Research

Today our faculty has worked together with International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and IDRC Canada through Zoonotic Dieases Center (ZDC) which was established by our faculty. The purpose of this program is to expand and socialized Ecohealth Concept as our faculty has been choosen to become Ecohelath Regional Center of Asia (ERCA). Ecohealth itself is a discipline that deals with environmental preservation and health approach as the basic foundation for animal health which implicates on human health and welfare.

Clinical

Today our faculty has one Animal Hospital known as Prof. Soeparwi Animal Hospital which used to be the old building of our faculty. It is located at Jl. Yacaranda, Sekip Unit II, Yogyakarta 55281. This animal hospital open every days and has about 21 veterinarians that worked here. This animal hospital also provides many services to its clients such as vaccination, grooming, surgery, health consultation, emergency unit,animal care center and roentgen.
