| Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Lublin ([http://www.weterynaria.up.lublin.pl www.weterynaria.up.lublin.pl]) was established in 1944 as one of the faculties belonging to University of Maria Skłodowska-Curie. It was located within the university campus together with other faculties, the main library, cultural centre and student houses. | + | High School Diploma (Matura) certificate allows for admission to enroll for the 1st year of studies of veterinary medicine in Lublin. Biology and chemistry should be chosen as additional subjects for exam. |
| + | Faculty Admittance Commission is responsible for the procedure and the selection of candidates. Applicants are ranked in accordance to Matura points. The number of candidates is established every year by Faculty Council and Rector and varies between 120 and 150. |

| + | The studies of veterinary medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Lublin last 5.5 years (11 semesters) and are one step studies leading to the diploma of veterinary surgeon. Curriculum is based on regulations of the Faculty Council and EU directive requirements related to Day one skills. Systematic teaching (lectures and classes) takes place in winter semester starting 1st Oct and lasting 15 weeks. During the first three weeks in February students take exams, there is also a short break between the terms. The summer semester lasting 15 weeks starts at the end of February. Again, three weeks in June are devoted to exams. |

| + | The degree of Doctor of Veterinary Sciences (equal to PhD) is conferred to a person who holds the degree of veterinary surgeon, performed experimental work, has passed doctoral examinations covering the scope defined by the board of the awarding organizational unit and has submitted and defended a doctoral thesis. It is obligatory for assistants employed at the Faculty to obtain the degree. |

| + | According to legal regulations the continuing education in any of the 17 professional veterinary specializations can be conducted by Veterinary Faculties in Poland. It is realized in the form of short, 2-day courses held from 2 to 5 times per semester. The duration of such study depends on the kind of specialization and ranges from 4 to 6 semesters. After completion of the study and passing the exam in front of a commission appointed by the National Council, a veterinary surgeon obtains the national specialist competence. |
