In canines the fibula is a fine shaft shape which runs the full length of the tibia. There is an interosseus space between the two bones for the proximal half of the tibia. The proximal element of the fibula that articulates with the tibia has a oval shape and the distal element is a type of compact malleolar bone which interlocks with the distal tibia.
