The Veterinary School of the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), former Escola Fluminense de Medicina Veterinária, was founded in 1936 by Vital Brazil Filho and Américo Braga and incorporated into UFF since 1961 .

After its foundation it worked initially in the Botanical Garden of Niterói, in the headquarters of the extinct College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine of Ministry of Agriculture. Later, it was moved to a building on Rua Visconde de Rio Branco. In 1939, the renowned scientist Dr. Vital Brazil donated, by deed for construction of the headquarters of the School, and with the express permission of Fluminense Government, an area of 8,800 square meters of land carved out of the Vital Brazil Institute, currently Rua Vital Brazil Filho, 64, Santa Rosa, Niterói.
