Opioids have addtional recognised effects. They:
* Decrease the sensitivity of the respiratory centres of the brain to carbon dioxide.
* Give potent cough suppression.
* Cause emesis.
* Constrict the pupils (miosis).
* Reduce gastro-intestinal motility.
* Lead to histamine release.
