''Ureaplasmas'' produce urease, whereas ''Mycoplasmas'' do not metabolise urea. Serolgy is required for specific identification including complement fixation tests, ELISA, agglutination tests and haemagglutination-inhibition tests. Growth inhibition tests using specific antisera can be used as well as fluorescent antibody tests.
