|pagebody = Anaemia refers to a reduction in the [[Packed Cell Volume|packed cell volume]], haemoglobin concentration or total number of [[Erythrocyte|erythrocytes]]. It may be caused by infectious diseases of the red blood cells, haemorrhage or autoimmune responses directed at endogenous erythrocytes. The major causes are:

**Canine and feline infectious anemia caused by ''[[Mycoplasma haemocanis]]'' and ''[[Mycoplasma haemofelis]]'' respectively. Candidata ''M. haemominutum'' and ''M. turicensis'' may also cause anaemia in cats.
**''[[Leptopsira|Leptospira spp.]]'' may cause anaemia, usually when an animal is exposed to a non-host-adapted serovar.
**''[[Babesia|Babesia spp.]]'' may cause anaemia in dogs and cattle.
