The clinical signs are extremely variable and are not specific
to FIV infection. In many cases, the cat is presented
with vague signs such as chronic weight loss and poor
appetite. The clinical signs may relate to direct viral
effects as well as the effects of immunosuppression (see
tables on the left). Immunosuppressive effects result
in an increased vulnerability to secondary infections,
primarily with bacteria and other viruses.
