Localised microthrombi are rarely significant unless they are strategically sited. Generalised microthrombi may be seen in terminal diseases as a reflection of vascular failure, and are often associated with shock syndromes as part of [[Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation|disseminated intravascular coagulation]].
