- Usually related to a disturbance of neural control e.g.
- CNS depression (anaesthetics, pain, pyrexia)
- Decreased excitatory (anorexia, vagus indigestion) input from forestomach receptors
- Increased inhibitory (distension, acidosis) input from forestomach receptors
- Motor blockade (hypocalcaemia).
