About Us
Although the idea of founding the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine arose at the beginning of the twentieth century, the institution was established upon the Declaration of the Department of Education Act No 30281/36 in 1936. It was at that point that the newly founded institution was named the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Belgrade. On August 19th, 1936. the first professors were elected and the courses started. The professors were mainly chosen amongst the lecturers of the Faculty of Medicine and/or the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry. The First Dean was Professor Živojin Đorđević, PhD. A total of 149 students were enrolled in Class 1936. , and the classes were held at the premises of the Faculty of Medicine.
Just before the outbreak of the Second World War the construction began on the, now present, Faculty building. It wasn't completed when the war began and consequently the construction and classes had to be halted. The construction site then reopened in 1946, so that by 1948 most of the Faculty facilities, including some of the clinics and the basic infrastructure for research activity were up and running.
The Faculty underwent a reform in 1998. which included changes to the curriculum and school policy. The name of the faculty was also changed from the Veterinary faculty to the Faculty of Veterinary medicine which is in current use today.
Clinical Services
The various departments include clinics and laboratories which serve both as functional and training facilities incorporated into the Faculty. Those being the Companion animal clinic, Farm animal clinic, Theriogenelogy clinic and Surgical clinic. The laboratories are the Microbiology laboratory, Food hygiene laboratory, Parasitology laboratory and Pathology laboratory.
