|History=The fourth National Veterinary School in France was created in 1979 to train more vets in the country. Oniris - Nantes-Atlantic National College of Veterinary Medicine, Food Science and Engineering, was the result of its fusion with the National School of Agri-Food Engineering of Nantes in 2010. Thus, veterinary students can interact with engineering students in food science/nutrition or health biotechnologies, which is unique in France.

An internship is a full-time annual program aiming to get operational skills in medicine and surgery. Each of the four French Vet Schools offers an internship programme in small animal clinics. The recruitment is common to the four Veterinary Schools in the form of a national competitive examination.

Oniris is the only vet school in France accredited for Doctoral Degrees.

Eventually, the [http://www.oniris-nantes.fr/en/services/the-veterinary-environmental-platform/ Ecosystem and Wildlife Veterinary Centre], created in 1985, takes care of European wild animals in distress with the aim of rehabilitating them to their natural environment. Most cases are relevant to intensive care and emergency, but some animals are also suffering from various diseases (bacteria, viruses or parasites) and environmental problems (poisoning, pollutant, oil spills …). Up to 1500 animals are taking care of each year.
