Liasis is an Australasian genus of python containing at least ten species. They include four small brown pythons from Australia – L. childreni, L. maculosus, L. perthensis and L. stimsoni; two moderate to large species from Australia – the water python (L.fuscus) and the olive python (L. olivaceus) and four moderate to large species from New Guinea – the ringed python (L. boa), D’Alberti’s python (L.albertisii), Macklot’s python (L. mackloti) and the Papuan python (L. papuanus).
