Ovine Lungworm
Dictyocaulus filaria
- Most important lungworm of sheep and goats. It is associated with chronic cough and unthriftiness in lambs and kids. Sporadic in temperate areas. Disease outbreaks more likely in warmer climates.
Life-Cycles
- Similar to D. viviparus in cattle, i.e. direct life-cycle
- Prepatent period 5 weeks
Epidemiology
- Dictyocaulus filaria
- Similar to D. viviparus in cattle
- Most susceptible when first exposed to contaminated pasture
- Animals < 1 year old
- Pathogenesis and pathology similar to Dictyocaulus viviparus in cattle
- Bronchitis
