PATHOLOGY OF THE VAGINA AND VULVA
- CONGENITAL DEFECTS
rectovaginal fistula or urethrorectovaginal fistula.
- TRAUMA
- Prolapse: ewes in late pregnancy, or on oestrogenic pasture and in bitches, e.g. Boxer at oestrus.
- Rupture: at parturition.
- VULVO-VAGINITIS
- Mechanical: parturition.
- Infective: cow infectious pustular vulvovaginitis, seen as hyperaemia and oedema with increased lymphoid nodules and ulceration.
- NEOPLASIA
Primary:
- Squamous cell carcinoma: cow, ewe, mare, due to solar radiation.
- Transmissible venereal tumour : in the bitch, transmitted at coitus by transfer of intact cells. Nodular, friable ulcerated lesion. Spontaneous regression. Uncommon where no free running dog population.
- Leiomyomas/fibromas/lipomas: Melanotic tumours of the prepuce and vulva and sarcoids in equines.
