PATHOLOGY OF THE VAGINA AND VULVA

  • CONGENITAL DEFECTS


rectovaginal fistula or urethrorectovaginal fistula.

  • TRAUMA
  1. Prolapse: ewes in late pregnancy, or on oestrogenic pasture and in bitches, e.g. Boxer at oestrus.
  2. Rupture: at parturition.
  • VULVO-VAGINITIS
  1. Mechanical: parturition.
  2. Infective: cow infectious pustular vulvovaginitis, seen as hyperaemia and oedema with increased lymphoid nodules and ulceration.
  • NEOPLASIA


Primary:

Squamous cell carcinoma: cow, ewe, mare, due to solar radiation.
Transmissible venereal tumour : in the bitch, transmitted at coitus by transfer of intact cells. Nodular, friable ulcerated lesion. Spontaneous regression. Uncommon where no free running dog population.
Leiomyomas/fibromas/lipomas: Melanotic tumours of the prepuce and vulva and sarcoids in equines.
