Ectoparasites - Rabbit
Take great care in the treatment of ectoparasites of small mammals because of the danger of toxicity to these species from pesticides and their vehicles eg fipronil (Frontine®: Merial) toxic to rabbits The preferred treatment for mites in very small mammals involves the topical use of pyrethrins (Ridmite® Powder; Johnson's – available from pet shops) and flowers of sulphur on affected individuals. Prevention involves avoidance of contact with other companion animals and wild species.
