Sistrurus is a genus of snakes of the subfamily Crotalinae, family Viperidae and it includes the three species of rattlesnakes not in Crotalus. They differ from Crotalus spp. in having several large scales on the tops of their heads. Although their bites are painful they are not usually fatal.
