There are two approaches to homecare - active homecare and passive homecare.
Active homecare is “hands-on” where the client is physically involved with removing plaque and maintaining oral hygiene. Tooth brushing and applying anti-plaque agents directly into the mouth fit into this category. Active homecare is proven to be the most effective when performed correctly.
Passive homecare refers to all the other parts of an oral hygiene program that may help reduce plaque in the mouth, but that does not require a direct interaction/involvement of the client. Examples of passive home care include giving a diet that has a dental benefit or a chew to help reduce plaque accumulation.
