Introduction

In the UK the more serious respiratory viruses are equine/asinine herpes virus and equine influenza, although other viruses such as adeno- and rhinovirus have been confirmed in donkeys with respiratory disease. Bacterial infections such as strangles also occur but these require similar treatment to the horse so are not discussed further here.
