The sidewinder (Crotalus cerastes) is a short stubby desert rattlesnake that is generally active at night. It is distributed in northwestern Mexico, southern parts of Utah, Arizona, Nevada and eastern California. Its mode of locomotion allows minimal contact of its body with the hot desert surface.
