Evidence-Based Practice

The principles of evidence-based practice require that decisions in veterinary health care are based on the best available, current, valid and relevant evidence, and that this should be integrated with clinical expertise, the patient’s needs, and the client’s values and preferences.

Veterinary professionals should ensure that they are well informed on current best practice; via publications, colleagues and through continuing professional development.

Decisions made by clients must be informed by the tacit and explicit knowledge of the veterinary professionals providing care. This knowledge should be communicated to clients in a way that allows them to make an informed decision.
