Technologies such as artificial insemination(AI) have been in use for some time and in cattle, for example have become standard practice for reproduction purposes; the technique requires collection of semen from the male, which is preserved, tansported and introduced into the female reporoductive tract in synchrony with the ovulation cycle. Recently other techniques have been developed which permit development of the embryo in a donor animal - a technique called embryo transfer.
